Job Description:

There is an open postdoctoral position for an enthusiastic and motivated individual in Dr. Pavel Masek's Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Binghamton University, NY.

Our lab is focus on two main areas. One is studying the principles and mechanisms of learning and memory on behavioral, neuronal and molecular level, primarily using Aversive Taste Conditioning (ATC) assay. Our other group of projects involve characterization of a new taste modality (the taste of fat), gustatory and food search, selection and preference, and taste and feeding disorders. We design and build behavioral assays to study new learning and memory, and taste and feeding related behaviors.

Candidates should be familiar working with Drosophila. Highly qualified candidates with previous experience in neurogenetics, Ca2+ imaging, behavior assays, taste perception, learning & memory and/or optogenetics are especially welcome but highly motivated candidates with different sets of skills will be also considered.

Review of applications will begin as soon as they are received, and will continue until the position is filled. The position is available immediately and is funded for up to two years with the possibility of extension.

Requirements:

PhD in biology, neuroscience or other relevant field is required. Fresh PhD graduate or second postdocs are both welcome.

Candidate should have the following abilities:

* Strong work ethics, writing and analytical skills are essential.

* Strong record of research productivity

* Work on ongoing and new projects in the lab

* Plan, conduct and analyze experiments; write papers and grants.

* Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Additional Information:

Salary: $47,484, commensurate with experience.
