Job Description Purpose of Position The Service Technician maintains and repairs John Deere and other-branded equipment owned by the Company and customers. The work performed is very physical and is often performed in less than ideal circumstances against critical time constraints. Work may be performed in the shop or in the field and could involve basic preventative maintenance, minor or major repairs. Technicians are independently certified to perform at a level determined by their own performance, experience, equipment knowledge, completed training and progression from entry level III (3) to the intermediate level II (2) to the advanced and fully capable level I (1) technician. Responsibility Possesses strong diagnostic and mechanical operation skills. Understands and implements concept of root cause analysis. On occasion, a Technician of a higher class (I or II) may be called upon to coach a Technician at a lower class (II or III). Actively participates in the Company’s safety mind frame. Is aware of one’s surroundings and wear all PPE at all times. Reports incidents related to near–miss, accidents or injury ASAP to proper company representative. Makes Service Manager aware of non-serviceable tools, equipment, or vehicles or other departmental safety concerns. Responsible for attending mandated training whether on or off site, at dealership or online and completes training materials. Shall not discuss any warranty items with customers regarding repairs or service, in terms of what the customer may or may not be responsible for. Other duties as assigned. Road Service Technician In addition to the items listed above, the technician will: Observe all speed limits, traffic laws and safety policies while operating company vehicles. Maintain required Commercial Driver’s License class for vehicle assigned and keep medical card updated, if required. Maintain accurate logs as required for driving; fuel tax, mileage, per truck class; accurately, neatly and completely. Perform daily pre-trip safety check and preventative maintenance on service vehicle, clean cab and wash vehicle. Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge Must possess experience troubleshooting and diagnosing heavy equipment issues. Prior experience or training in the heavy equipment field as a service technician or mechanic . Must provide his/her own tools to perform as a Service Technician. Can perform basic math and read, write and speak English. Follows instructions. Road Service Technician must have a clean DMV to qualify for insurance coverage under the company auto policy. Manages one’s own time, resources and performs to the best of their ability under all work conditions, etc. Ability to use laptop computer and software applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet functions. Ability to work flexible hours as well as work in various demanding environmental conditions. Communicates effectively. Can solve problems whether conceptual or concrete in nature with little to no assistance.
